What would be interesting is to see the number of people that leave one for the other, and why. I left the burbs to live in an arguably inner-city neighborhood, or first-ring suburb to be generous about it, because the burbs offered me nothing. I'm sure there's plenty of people that move from Bucktown or Wicker Park out to places like Schaumburg to raise a family, to be nearer work, etc. How many of them did so (maybe in the 70s and 80s) and, once the kids leave the nest, are now downsizing their houses and buying places back in their old neighborhoods?
